Chamba Camp Diskit

The high-altitude cold desert valley of Nubra is unlike any other.  Bare brown mountains located in the Himalayan rain shadow region are interspersed with sand dunes that bask in abundant sunlight and snow, untouched by rain. The blue waters of the snaking Shyok River cuts through the surreal landscape adding to the drama. A scatter of quaint villages and farms with herds of grazing goats, sheep, or yaks, against the backdrop of the mountains adds to the charm.

Nestled in the heart of Nubra Valley, located north of Leh Valley, the super-luxury camp at Diskit is an oasis of canvas delight under the canopy of snow-capped mountains. The camp enjoys a 360° panoramic view of the mountains while a natural flowing stream cuts through the campsite. Guests can discover the dramatic landscape and the charms of village life in the Nubra Valley with specialized guided excursions featuring village explorations, birding, and hikes.

Diskit village is located in Ladakh’s Nubra Valley north of Leh. It is about 120km drive from Leh via Khardungla pass or via Shyok. The camp is situated at the confluence where the Shyok and Nubra rivers meet, the Nubra Valley separates Ladakh from the Karakoram mountain range. The nearest airport is the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (127 km / 5 hrs around drive time).

  • The camp is operational from 01 May to 20 September
  • Ladakh has a cold desert climate with long, harsh winters from October to early March, with minimum temperatures well below freezing for most of the winter. July – August are the best months as the Monsoons start entering into the trans-Himalayas by late August.

The tented camps are ‘semi-permanent’ and are dismantled and removed during the off-season, leaving a virgin site that has not disturbed the natural environment whatsoever. The camp is lit primarily through solar energy as part of their commitment to carbon neutrality. TUTC is strongly committed to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint and takes several measures and efforts at the various campsites.  The use of steel flasks instead of packaged drinking water, LED lights in the camps, zero plastic policy, usage of low flow faucets for water conservation, responsible waste management, and solar energy use are just some of the measures implemented at the various camps. TUTC also ensures environmental, social, and economic sustainability and development at all its camps.
