Barahi Jungle Lodge

Situated on the banks of the Rapti river opposite Chitwan National Park, Barahi Jungle Lodge’s extensive 12 hectares of grounds provides a truly magical jungle experience. Build in 2012 on barren grassland, over 5,000 trees have been planted across the 12 hectares of land, creating the lush jungle forest that encompasses the sprawling resort today.

Accommodation comprises of thatched huts dotted along the banks of the Rapti river and a few nestled in the jungle for an even more secluded and private experience.

Location

Barahi Jungle Lodge overlooks Chitwan National Park from the other side of the Rapti River, about 180kms from Kathmandu. The closest airport is Bharatpur, about an hour’s drive from the lodge, with daily flights from Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Rooms & Suites

Accommodation is made up of 28 individual thatched huts and 3 double huts with interconnecting rooms, all offering deluxe rooms and one sumptuous two-bedroom suite. Most of the huts are dotted along the banks of the Rapti River, bar a few, nestled in the jungle for an even more secluded and private experience.

The deluxe rooms are thatched roof huts with a private balcony offering either river view with the park opposite or jungle view. The rooms are decorated with natural materials, all locally sourced, and feature wildlife art and sculptures. The bathrooms are beautifully mosaic tiled with 10 rooms featuring hand-crafted bathtubs and the others, walk-in cubicle showers.

The Presidential Suite, elegantly decorated in stone, tile, bamboo, and wood, has two bedrooms, one master and one twin room, and a separate living room with dining area, all with access to the deck and private pool outside. The extensive private outdoor area overlooks the river and the national park opposite and features a BBQ, fire pit, outdoor dining area, and pool deck with loungers. The master bathroom boasts an enormous bathtub as well as walk-in shower. A stay in the sumptuous suite also includes butler service.

Restaurants & Bars

The lodge’s Banyan Café, offers a varied choice of Continental, Nepali and Indian cuisines.  The Tiger Den poolside bar is the place to enjoy a moonlit drink with the jungle sounds as the backing track, or relax on the Turtle Deck verandah with a drink and a snack.

Spa & Wellness

The perfect place to unwind after a busy day in the jungle. Professional therapists are at hand to offer muscular relief from aches and pains. A wide variety of massage and beauty treatments are on offer and there is a Jacuzzi bath for a therapeutic soak.

Experiences

Exploring Chitwan National Park and the local area can be done in a number of ways. Jungle safaris start with a boat across the river where 4×4 vehicles await to take you around the park, with a stop for breakfast or lunch with a sumptuous picnic. You can opt for a morning or afternoon tour or a full day which allows you to go further afield into the depths of the jungle.

A boat safari is a wonderful way to view the wide variety of aquatic birds. The knowledgeable guides point out all the exciting wildlife as you float by, including rhinos sunning themselves on the banks or wading in the river; Gharial crocodiles soaking up the sun and deer peering through the trees on the bank. The trip culminates in a delicious riverside sunset with complimentary hot snacks. Or for the early morning boat trip, a hot breakfast is cooked up on the bank. Walking safaris are also on offer and are ideal for keen bird watchers.

There is also the opportunity to take a cultural walk through a local village of The Tharu, the local indigenous ethnic group in Chitwan. Learn about their fascinating culture and practices.

When not adventuring on safari, or relaxing at the pool, the jungle experiences continue back at the lodge. Guests can enjoy a bush dinner, a riverside picnic or sundowner, and evening cultural dance performances. The library offers a peaceful spot to relax in, or for the more active there is a badminton court and basketball hoop, as well as bicycles available to ride around the lodge or explore the local village.

 

 

Sustainability and Responsible Tourism

Barahi Jungle Lodge are proud recipients of several awards acknowledging their dedication to maintaining responsible tourism and ecology. Dedicated to giving back to the community, 97% of the staff are from the surrounding area, all raw food products come from nearby villages and they support the village school by providing clean drinking water and donating bicycles to local children.

The lodge operates a no single-use plastic policy, as well as doing regular cleaning drives in the local area. It has an extensive food waste segregation system and plants 1000s of trees annually.
